We live in a dangerous world. With a new day comes more news of a surprise attack, and the faces of our enemies continue to change with more militant groups stepping forward each day.
When America leads, the world is safe. But with an Administration who is unwilling to act, it only emboldens our attackers. Now is the time that we must be ever vigilant to combat the growing threat of terrorism.
That’s why I’ve worked with my colleagues in the House and Senate to pass meaningful reforms to ensure that our borders are secure.
I fought to strengthen our immigration laws and protect our homeland by voting to halt the Syrian refugee process and putting more restrictions on those traveling to the United States from Iraq and Syria. Those restrictions on foreign travelers were signed into law late last year.
Most recently, with my support, the House passed the Counterterrorism Screening and Assistance Act, which would require the Administration to assess how well other countries are screening against potential terrorists and set minimum standards around the world. We can then use this information to help our fellow nations close the gaps — and hold those who refuse to do so accountable.
That’s also why I have voted for funding for critical national security programs like the U.S. Army Cyber Command at Fort Gordon. We have folks right here in the 12th District who are battling cyberterrorism and protecting our troops everyday — and they deserve our support.
We can’t just sit on the sidelines while this President continues to refuse to combat the growing threat of ISIS and other radical Islamic terrorists around the world. We need a comprehensive strategy from the Commander-in-Chief, and yet all we get is inaction. I promise that I will continue to vote with your safety and security in mind, and continue to pass more meaningful reforms that will protect our homeland.
