(AUGUSTA, GA)—Today, U.S. Representative Rick W. Allen (R-Ga-12) won reelection in Georgia’s 12th Congressional District, defeating Patricia Carpenter McCracken by 23 points, 61.6% to 38.4%. Rep. Allen released the following statement after being declared the winner:

“Robin and I are so honored that the people of Georgia’s 12th District have once again elected me, a small businessman from Augusta, to represent them in Washington. We are so grateful,” said Rep. Allen.

“In my short time in Congress, we have been able to get a lot done despite rigid political gridlock. As a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, I worked hard to get the Every Student Succeeds Act passed, which is the largest shift of education to the local level in decades and works to make the Secretary of Education irrelevant by removing Washington from the classroom.

As a Freshman Member of Congress, I authored legislation that passed the House unanimously by voice vote to protect Americans from IRS abuse. I listened to the needs of my constituents and voted to balance the budget, voted to defund Planned Parenthood and investigate them for selling human body parts of unborn children, strengthened our immigration laws and protected our homeland, supported legislation to stop the overreaching hand of the government, and proudly voted to fully repeal Obamacare. The House is doing the People’s work but Congress still has work to do.

The House is working to get America back on track by establishing “A Better Way”– a vision and plan for a future that Americans can once again feel confident in. With the House GOP’s Better Way Agenda, tackling six key issue areas—healthcare, national security, poverty and opportunity, jobs and the economy, tax reform and restoring the Constitution, I am hopeful that we can restore fiscal sanity and prosperity in this country.

When I first ran for Congress, I had three goals: grow the economy, create jobs and reduce the scope and size of the federal government. I have kept my word and these goals will continue to guide my decision-making. Once again, the people of the 12th District have given me the greatest honor of my life. I am beyond thankful to have another opportunity to serve the people of Georgia’s 12th District.”
